Have you ever had your sense of Justice and Fairness so offended that you have become incandescent with Righteous Anger?

I have. Recently.

I had an...experience, with the Moderators and Administrators of the Oil forum at the art board WetCanvas. I am very unhappy with the way Moderators are deleting posts without notice and warnings given whenever anybody tries to query their actions. Also there is a "policy" to purge anything to do with an individual and the gagging of any mention of his small independent paint brand. There are some other issues as well.

I traded PM's with the administrator and it did not go well. They are completely uncooperative, unaccountable(and gleefully so, as they pointed out a Rule you agree to when you sign up saying they can do what they like, when they like, to any post and you have no right to dispute their actions,) ignored all my suggestion to make the board better and pointedly ignored my requests for change. I have even been labeled as "disruptive" after only one comment(it was completely justified, it was quickly deleted and I got a warning for it). I have been given black marks against my name that only the mods/admins can see(my request to see all they have on my "permanent case file" was also pointedly ignored). Shame on them. I dont know how anyone can be comfortable on a board with Rules like that that allow them to get away with anything with no accountability.

I dont hold a grudge against them, although I do feel sorry for them and am extremely disappointed with their actions and response to me trying to make the board better for all its users. They are poorer for it.

My ethics and morals are of a very different standard to them so I will have to try and find another more fitting place to go to.

Bottom line is, if you want an art board that has solid, accurate and true information about art materials and painting practices, that is run by fair, open minded and accountable moderators, stay away from WetCanvas.

Family History

I wish I knew more about the Veszely family history, my fathers side, since it is where I get my family name.

I know my father came to Australia from Hungary in 1950 as a young child to escape the War, with his father Janos and mother Anny. Unfortunately my Grandfather died some years ago and he never really spoke to my father about his time before coming to Australia.

I know my Grandfather was born in a small town called Cuptoare Secul, or Kemenceszek as it is known in Hungarian. My Grandfather was the youngest of 6 children born to Jozsef Veszely and Etelka Breuer, apart from that I know nothing of what happened to them. I'd love to track down other Veszely family members to find out more about my family history. Unfortunately I dont read or speak Hungarian so it make things all the more difficult.

If whoever reads this knows of any people with the surname Veszely, please send them my way!

I dont know where this blog is going...actually it is going no where at the moment.

I dont know whether to make it a dedicated painting blog(means I have to paint something, lol), a bit of everything blog(means I'll have to get a life, even bigger lol) or just shut it down as it is currently going no where...

Ennui = a feeling of utter weariness and discontent resulting from satiety or lack of interest...that perfectly sums up where I am right now.

I went to charge the battery for my camera and found that the charger has died. It was working last week when I used it. I don't know what happened, it has just been sitting in my camera bag. Now I'm going to have to try and find a new one or get this fixed(if it is cost efficient).

So what does this mean? It means I cant post pictures until I get things sorted. How long it will take I have no clue.

Hooray!

Finally received the second package I've been waiting for. I ordered a limited edition signed copy of Richard Schmid's "The Landscapes" at the beginning of September. It was shipped on the 7th of December and from the postage it looked like it took the scenic route via Sweden for some reason.

I dont know just how many Signed Copy's were issued but I do know that the option was removed in less than a week. I think $160US for this is well worth it. Yeah, you may have guessed I am a bit of a book collector. I've only got about 60 "art instruction" type books. I'd have 100's if I had the money. :-) This isnt a painting instruction type book, it is more a retrospective collection of Richard Schmid's 50+ years painting career. It has over 300 colour images of his paintings.

I've only just skimmed through it, it looks wonderful. I cant wait to sit down and study it in peace and quiet with a (careful) cup of Tea.

Lovely Colours!

I only got 5 colours this time, they are

Pyrrolo (Irgazine) Red

Cadmium Yellow Medium

Cobalt Green

Cadmium Primrose

Cadmium Orange Light

I made a few swatches with the colours but they didnt turn out that great so the pictures are from the Studio Products website as they show the colours much better than I can.

The paint handles very differently from other brands I have used before. These have a texture like a mixture of honey and cream, while the other paint I've used feels just like "window-putty" as Rob Howard put it.

I'm trying to put out of my mind the fact that these 9 tubes RRP at about $420 AUS...on the plus side, if I sell a couple of painting I've paid for them. :-) High quality fine art materials aren't cheap...so it peeves me when I see artwork in upmarket galleries that have been painted with "synthetic polymer emulsion" or HOUSE PAINT on plywood or cardboard that fetch ten of thousands of dollars...it makes me question why I bother using high quality materials.

I hope 2010 will be a great year for you all, as well as for me.

It is never to late to start afresh and that is my plan for 2010. I aim to make a living off my art before the year is out(there I've said it) and even if I dont, at least I will have tried and I will be a lot further along than if I never did or said anything.

It wouldnt hurt if you all bought a painting or three off me once I start producing them. ;-)

Package #1

I received a package from Studio Products around mid December, in it was what you see in the following picture.

What you see is some of the finest made paint and medium on the planet. I've been procrastinating opening them because once I open the tubes it means I will have to use them before they "go off" and I waste a couple of hundred bucks. I will open these and I will use them and I will post picture of the paintings I make with them.

Is still somewhere between the USA and my house...I'll tell you what is in it once it arrives.

Maybe I should change this to a painting a week or a month...or a Quarter blog or some such.

My internal avoidance program is working in hyper drive. I keep finding myself tired at the end of the day and yet I've nothing to show for it.

I've lived so much of my life inside my head that getting my thoughts "out there" is somewhat of a challenge. Changing ones behavior and routine is something that requires a lot of self discipline(and I've never had much of that).

Bear with me...(if there is anyone that is actually interested in anything I've posted out there)

Over the hill at 25?

Have you noticed that nearly everyone on Tv is under 25...or it appears that way. I was flicking through Tv stations the other day and caught some "Reality TV" and all the participants looked like they were children.

If you arent world famous or at the top of your field and have "made it" by the time you are 25 then the media doesnt want to know you. I saw a billionaire businessman on the Tv a few years ago and he said "if you haven't made it by the time you are 30 you never will"...there might be plenty of reasons that one "hasnt made it" by the age of 30. I find it somewhat discouraging that that is the pervasive mindset of the media and a lot of other influential people.

It is really starting to anger me. What about the Susan Boyle's of this world. There are many many people with talent and so much to give but sometime people just haven't had the opportunity, for whatever reason. It shouldn't mean we get shoved aside.

There should be more Prizes, Scholarships, Awards, etc for Over 35's. There are plenty of opportunities for those under 35. Its about time the world started recognizing us and giving us opportunities too.

Feeling Boxed In today...the folloiwing are some of my jumbled rambling thoughts.

I have so many ideas and things I want to do but I am limited(or is it stifled) due to having no money or contacts or opportunity or confidence.

How does one keep plodding on with nothing of anything...when in ones mind I am able to do/say/be extraordinary?

I know a lot I imagine just isnt possible but still I dream.

I often wonder what I am capable of if I was given the resources and means. Most artists probably wish they had unlimited funds to follow their dreams...

I said I'd try to post daily...it takes time to change old bad habits and form new more productive ones.

I'm still sorting out the room I paint in. It is shared with other people so it makes it a lot harder to be creative. I like my own space...no, I need my own space. I need to have things the way I want them, where I want them and know something will be exactly where I left it when I come back to it. Unfortunately I don't currently have such a space that is "mine" and it hampers creativity. Well it hampers My creativity.

I need to sort things out, or just put up with it until I become rich and famous and can afford to buy something that is mine alone. :-)

I've seen a lot of blogs talking about doing a painting a day, I plan to join those ranks. However it is with my own twist, I may not post a painting but I want to post something creative, be it a photograph, drawing, or even a thought I had.

I will most likely start out slow and tentative. After being stuck for so long it is quite a shock to my whole being making the changes I have in mind.

I need to sort out my painting space...as well as my head space. I'm planing big changes to my life. I hope I can follow through this time.

So there it is...one down, my whole life to go.

I had to do it sometime. It's nerve wracking putting ones work "out there" for all to see.

Here are a few of my paintings...these were all done a few years ago now.
